Oil: effects on marine ecosystems

A large scrollstory on the impacts of oil exploration off the coast of Newfoundland and on marine biodiversity — seismic noise, light pollution, and maritime traffic threatening dozens of species.

Oil: effects on marine ecosystems

  • SVG Animation

As you scroll, the interface gradually descends into the dark depths of the ocean, a visual progression driven by complex GSAP scroll animations. A project realized in collaboration with data journalist Laurianne Croteau, whose rigorous research is at the heart of the narrative, and brought to life by the illustrations of the talented Émilie Robert.

Endangered species

As you scroll, endangered marine species appear according to their natural depth, from surface birds to deep-sea fish — revealing how oil exploration, with its noise, pollution, and drilling, affects marine life at all levels of the ocean.
